The weather in Florida isn’t the only thing that is hot this summer. The 2013 Palm Beach Equine Clinic Photo Contest was on fire with over 138 photo entries. The number of photos entered in the contest this year almost tripled last year’s contest. Our panel of judges had a challenging time picking the top three finalists to be posted on Facebook for public judging. The judges’ panel was a select group of Palm Beach Equine Clinic staff members, Shelley Rentas, Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Scott Swerdlin, President, Dr. Richard Wheeler, Veterinarian and Partner, Breanna Allen, Executive Assistant, Gwen Abrams, Administration, and Eques Solutions’ President, Bobbi Rottman.
Contestants Sherri Wolff, Steve Lamerson, and Cathy Spaas, submitted the top three final photos picked by our judges. The three final photos were posted on Facebook for a 3-day voting battle where Steve Lamerson and Sherri Wolff ran neck and neck until the final hour. Sherri Wolff finished ahead with 295 votes while Steve Lamerson finished second with 224, and Cathy Spaas finished third with 36 votes.
“Thank you to everyone who sent us pictures, it was very hard to pick the top three and we enjoyed looking at each and every one; the winning picture beautifully illustrates the bond between horses and children which is where most of us start our equestrian careers,” said Dr. Richard Wheeler.
Sherri Wolff calls her winning photo, “Best Friends Forever: Myca Harris and Whinney after a great day in the saddle”. The picture is 7year-old Myca Harris and the 7year-old, Welsh cross gelding, Whinney, owned by Sherri Wolff. First place prize was a $200 gift certificate to Palm Beach Equine Clinic. The winning photo will be used in the 2014 show programs for the horse shows that Palm Beach Equine Clinic will be supporting including the Winter Equestrian Festival. “I’m so excited, I can’t believe me and Whinny are going to be in a program for a horseshow,” said Myca about her big win.
Due to the close heated race between first and second place, Palm Beach Equine Clinic President, Dr. Scott Swerdlin, has offered the second place winner, Steve Lamerson, a $50.00 gift certificate to Palm Beach Equine Clinic. “I would like to thank all the people who participated in this years’ photo contest. It was hard to choose from so many beautiful pictures of horses and riders,” said Dr. Swerdlin.
Thank you to all the contestants that entered photos and thanks to all the Facebook fans that got involved and voted! We are proud to be a part of your team!
