Abby Berzas, DVM
Dr. Abby Berzas grew up in the farming community of L’Anse Meg/Duralde, Louisiana, where she and her siblings cared for their family’s farm animals and explored nearby farms and trails by horseback. As a teenager, Dr. Berzas was involved in rodeo, running barrels, poles, and goat tying.
Her roots helped lead her towards obtaining her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University in the West Indies. She was a student member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the latter of which she is still involved. Topics such as parasitology, internal medicine, and equine focused practices especially drew her interest.
As part of her doctorate, Dr. Berzas completed several externships at small and large animal hospitals in Louisiana, West Indies, and Ireland. Broadening her skills, she decided to pursue a Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture from the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine, to be completed in 2021. Upon graduation, Dr. Berzas joined the veterinary team of Palm Beach Equine Clinic and obtained her certification as an FEI (International Equestrian Federation) Permitted Treating Veterinarian.
Dr. Berzas is most interested in cases involving internal medicine and finds it the most rewarding when she develops a connection and trust with the patient’s owner. Outside of the Equine Hospital, Dr. Berzas can be found hiking, kiteboarding, or relaxing on the beach with her dog and fiancé, Santiago.
