Fernando J. Marqués, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM, Diplomate ACVSMR

Dr. Fernando MarquĂ©s earned his DVM degree from the University of Buenos Aires. After graduation, he stayed in Argentina as a successful practitioner practicing sports medicine on elite dressage and show jumping horses competing at the highest level. Besides providing excellent service, creating client loyalty was one of the most important pillars to build his practice and clientele. Thereafter in 2002, Dr. MarquĂ©s completed a 3-year Residency Program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and became a Board-Certified Specialist in Large Animal Internal Medicine (“Diplomate ACVIM”). Following his residency, he joined the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan as an Associate Professor, where he was one of the Board-Certified Specialists at the Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC); a renowned referral clinic serving all of western Canada. While in Canada, he was granted tenure status, a high achievement in the academic field, and held important leadership positions such as Assistant Hospital Director for the Large Animal Clinic at the VMC, Chair of the Equine Health Research Fund, and Chair of the Equine Health and Welfare Committee of the Saskatchewan Horse Federation. In 2013, Dr. MarquĂ©s was appointed as an Equine Subject Matter Expert by the International Council for Veterinary Assessment for the development of the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination and other tests used by Universities and State Licensing Boards. He now serves as a Board of Director-At-Large member for this prestigious organization. In 2016, Dr. MarquĂ©s returned to UW-Madison’s School of Veterinary Medicine as a Clinical Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Equine Sports Medicine. In 2019, Dr. MarquĂ©s obtained his second Board Certification as a Specialist and became a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (“Diplomate ACVSMR”).

Dr. MarquĂ©s has conducted various research projects and authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters in the fields of equine internal and sports medicine. He serves as a scientific reviewer for many peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Equine Veterinary Education, Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Canadian Veterinary Journal, and Journal of Equine Veterinary Sciences. He is frequently invited to many National and International Veterinary Seminars and Conferences as a speaker.

In addition to his work as a Board-Certified Specialist in Internal Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, Dr. Marqués was also a show jumping instructor and rider for several years. He enjoys both coaching and competing and has experience leading equestrian teams in competition.

In 2022 Dr. Marqués joined the Palm Beach Equine Clinic team providing services in the fields of Equine Internal Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation. He works in Wellington, Florida, during the Winter Equestrian Season, and in Georgia and North Carolina the rest of the year.
